Preschool Homeschool {A-Z: Letter J}
Homeschooling pre-school age kiddos through the alphabet with a free curriculum

If you are just joining me, let me start by telling you a little about myself. I am a homeschooling momma to 4 Things ages 8 years old to 8 months old. I am linking up with Proverbs 31 Mamma for the next 26 weeks to add a new series to my blog called Preschool Homeschool {A-Z}. Each week I will be introducing easy curriculum and activities for preschoolers. You can start this with your 2 year olds. Feel free to pick and choose what you want to do with your littles or follow along with us each week. See Last week’s post for the Letter I.

Let’s begin, shall we?

Theme for the week is letter J! J stood for Jack O’Lantern this week. I just had to fit in a fall themed post somehow!

Day 1: No sensory tub this week. We planted pumpkin seeds this week! It’s too late to get any pumpkins growing in time for Halloween, but just maybe we will have a pumpkin in time for Thanksgiving! Click here for a free printable about the life cycle of a pumpkin.

Day 2: If you are just joining in, you can click here to print your free ABC Scripture Cards. This week’s verse is Hebrews 13:8. We have been talking about this verse a lot in general conversation so it was great that it popped up for our memory work this week!

I did not create these cards, Jenea, at I can teach my child to read, did and she did a fabulous job. We LOVE these cards. These cards help me to ensure my Things are hiding the word of God in their hearts. I printed, laminated, and placed mine on a key ring. We leave them on the kitchen table and review the Bible verse for the week at each meal. You will be surprised how fast your little learns the Bible verses!

Day 3: We collected leaves that were starting to turn brown and used them to make a pumpkin decoration.

Items needed:

  • Orange construction paper cut into small squares and one piece of brown construction paper for the stem
  • Clear Contact paper
  • Leaves
  • Scissors

Cut two squares of contact paper. Peel the backing off of one of your squares and start arranging your orange squares into a pumpkin shape. Place the brown piece on top for a stem. Let your preschooler decorate the inside of their pumpkin using the fall leaves they found on your nature walk. Place the second piece of contact paper on top to seal. You can trim up the edges if you like. Let them add this to their Nature Book if you have room. Click here to see how we made our nature book.

Day 4: We did a friendly Jack O’Lantern matching work sheet. Click here to go to the website with the free printable. I was pleasantly surprised that he matched all of them by himself!

We read a few books about pumpkins.

We colored a picture of a Jack O’Lantern in the morning. After nap, I returned the same Jack O’Lantern picture to him, but it was laminated and had been hole-punched around the edges. I added a piece of black yarn and showed him how to sew. He was thrilled about this activity! Practicing those motor skills and coordination! Fun stuff for a preschooler. I went here to choose my free printable coloring sheet.

Day 5: We practiced our numbers {1-10} by using pom- poms. He picked them up and put them in the bag while we counted them out together. We have several toys with number songs. I use these toys as teaching tools as well. We also did a review of colors and shapes this week.

Resources: You can go here to print out free Alphabet Flash Cards. I find that if you review 4 flashcards daily for a week and play games with them that they learn to recognize the letters pretty fast around the age of 2.
